The Easter holidays are just around the corner so 'chick' out these Easter themed activities to keep your little ones entertained!
You will need:
- A paper plate
- Scissors
- Glue
- Colouring Pencils
- Googly Eyes
- A button
- Paper
Re-create our very own buttons the bunny with this fun and easy Easter activity to keep young children busy!
- Glue the button in the middle of the paper plate and draw a mouth underneath it.
- Stick the googly eyes above the nose on the plate.
- Draw two long rabbit shaped ears on to the paper, cut them out (with parent supervision) and stick to the top of the plate.
- Cut out six long strips of paper and stick three on either side of the rabbit's nose for his whiskers.
Now you have your own Buttons the Bunny all year round!
Cracking Eggs-periment
You will need:
2 Raw Eggs
A glass/jar of water
A glass/jar of vinegar
2 Labels
This experiment will teach your kids in a fun way on how osmosis works!
Place an egg inside the glass of water and glass of vinegar and place a label on each (to remember what's in each one) and leave them for two days. During this time, you'll see carbon dioxide bubbles form around the vinegar egg's shell. After two days you’ll find that the acidic vinegar has completely broken down the calcium carbonate shell, which is caused by osmosis!
Chick Cookie Pops
Ingredients:
- 200g unsalted butter
- 100g golden caster sugar
- 1 medium beaten egg
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 200g plain flour
- 200g icing sugar
- 2 tbsp milk
- Yellow food colouring
- 50g chocolate chips
- 25g orange or white fondant icing
- Orange food colouring
- Lollipop sticks
It isn't Easter without some yummy sweet treats to enjoy. Children will love getting their hands stuck into some baking, and will especially enjoy eating the result!
- Put half the butter and all the sugar in a bowl and beat until creamy. Then beat in the egg and half the vanilla extract until combined.
- Mix in the flour until it comes together to form a dough. Press into a ball, wrap in cling film and put in the fridge for 20 mins.
- Heat oven to 180C/160C fan/gas 4. Line 2 baking trays with baking paper. Put the dough on a lightly floured surface and roll out until about 5mm thick. Cut out the cookies using a 6cm round cutter.
- Transfer the cookies to the lined trays and insert the lolly sticks a quarter of a way through the sides. Bake for 6-7 mins until the edges are golden brown, then transfer to a wire rack to cool.
For the icing:
- Place the rest of the softened butter in a bowl and beat with a wooden spoon, slowly adding the icing sugar until you have a smooth mixture.
- Add a splash of milk and the vanilla extract with a few drops of yellow and orange food colouring. Chill in the fridge for 5 mins.
- Spread the buttercream frosting over one side of the cooled cookie. Then add chocolate chip eyes and shape orange fondant icing into a beak and press into the cookies.
- Decorate with ribbon and enjoy!
